IASPM-ANZ Publication Prize Winners

2011 – Ase Ottosson for her journal article titled “Aboriginal Music and Passion: Interculturality and Difference in Australian Desert Towns”, Ethnos, 2010, 75:3, 275-300. The judging panel of senior IASPM-ANZ members commented: “The panel congratulates all the entrants on their submissions. The quality of the work was excellent and making a final decision was particularly difficult. The panel would have liked to have awarded more prizes and could have had several runners up. One comment the panel would like to make overall is that the quality and quantity of these applicants highlight the need to maintain this award for regional research. Nowhere else in the world is rewarding research in our region specifically, and it is up to us as a Society to encourage and support regional research in Popular Musics.”

2010 – Ase Ottosson for her journal article titled “Playing with Others and Selves: Australian Aboriginal Desert Musicians on Tour”, The Asia Pacific Journal of Anthropology, 2009, 10:2, 98-114. The judging panel of senior IASPM-ANZ members described this work as an original and substantial contribution to the study of Aboriginal popular music.
